On November 18, at the Akmola Regional Philharmonic named after Ukili Ybyrai, fragments from the opera *Kyz Zhibek* were performed as part of the 120th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding composer and People’s Artist of the Kazakh SSR, Yevgeny Brusilovsky. Excerpts from *Kyz Zhibek*, regarded as a gem of Kazakh opera art, were presented by the philharmonic’s soloists and the chamber choir accompanied by the Kazakh Orchestra of Folk Instruments named after K. Kumisbekov.

The evening opened with Y. Brusilovsky’s poem *Dumanda*. Tulegen’s arioso was performed by laureate of national competitions Serikbolsyn Bekmoldin; Zhibek’s aria *Gakku* was performed by Ayakoz Kalmangabetova, a recipient of the state award *Shapagat*; Bekezhan’s song *Ak kum* was presented by laureate of international competitions Bekulan Erbolatuly; and Duriya’s song was brilliantly performed by laureate of national competitions Zamzagül Smagulova, who demonstrated exceptional vocal mastery. The chamber choir, led by Honored Culture Worker Galina Kolesnikova, performed the pieces *Alty kyrdan asyra* and *Aiyng tusyn onyinan*, while the *Gakku* dance ensemble, under the direction of Honored Culture Worker Gulmira Ordabayeva, presented the dances *Aizhan kyzd* and *Shashu*. The honorary guest of the evening was People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, holder of the *Parasat* Order, composer, and conductor Aitkali Tilepkaliuly Zhayymov. Under his baton, the orchestra performed A. Zhayymov’s composition *Shattyk eli*. In addition, Honored Culture Workers Valeria Bolieva and Elmira Tuleubaeva, as well as traditional singer Sarsenbay Khasenov, also performed during the evening.
